My Background

I have over fifteen years experience as a clinician doing individual and couples therapy. For the past twenty years, I have worked with adolescents in a variety of settings including schools, residential group homes, inpatient hospital units, and in my private practice. This work experience has provided me the opportunity to appreciate diversity and to learn from mentors, co-workers and the patients themselves, who are my truest teachers.

My interest in psychology developed early on when I was exposed to the works of Freud and Jung. I was initially dissatisfied with the textbook psychology that I encountered in high school and undergraduate classes. Instead I cultivated a passion for literature, art and the humanities. After graduating with a BA in the Humanities, I took a job as an English teacher on an Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. The experiences that I had while working with this group of troubled teens galvanized me and showed me clearly the kind of therapeutic work that was possible, the kind of real work that I wanted to do.

My journey to become a therapist has involved travel, an ongoing study of literature, yoga and meditation, and a commitment to continuing education and consultation.
